The magic of tonics ?

My core focus as a naturopath is to support and nurture the body’s natural healing ability.
In the world we live in we are consistently put under pressure . Not only are our nervous system under a significant amount of stress ( more about that another time), our bodies are also under pressure , too . We are being exposed to numerous environmental and food based chemicals that our bodies have to process .
Herbal tonics are important allies to support our whole system to cope better with the pressure our environment and lifestyle puts us under.
A tonic is by definition, any substance that enhances or improves the functioning of a particular part of the body, system, or overall health. A tonic tends to promote health and well-being by providing nourishment, improving vitality, and restoring balance to the body.
I would like to share 3 of my favourite tonics.
Please note that herbs are medicine and not every herb is suited for every person. So, it is best to seek professional advice before starting to take herbal medicine, especially if you have a diagnosed medical condition and taking prescription medication.
?St Mary’s thistle ( Silybum marianum) is a tonic for the liver.
This beauty protects liver cells from damage, as well as supporting liver cells to regenerate. The herb is also a powerful antioxidant in its own righ. There are several clinical trials support the efficacy of the herb in treating liver disease.
?Ginger ( Zingiber officinale) is a tonic for the digestive system.
The herb stimulates stomach digestions, as well as reducing bloating and cramping and alleviating nausea . Ginger is also an excellent anti inflammatory. The ginger effect of reducing nausea and vomiting including during pregnancy and chemotherapy treatment as been well documented.
?Astragalus membranous is a tonic for the immune system.
This herb alley is my all time favourite! The herb not only has the ability to enhance the immune responds and has been shown to increase t the production of white blood cells, particularly T-cells. Furthermore , Astragalus is also an ‘adaptogen’, which means it has been shown to improve our overall resilience of any kind of stress.
There are so many more amazing tonics I could talk about , but I will save this for another time.
Thank you for reading and I hope that this post inspires you to explore the magic of tonics.

Hello, my name is Ruth . I’m a bachelor degree trained Naturopath and Nutritionist . I have been in clinical practice for over a decade and I have also spent many years as a lecturer in the field.

My primary focus as a Naturopath is to support and nourish your body’s ability to heal and experience wellbeing not on a physical but also emotional and soul level . I have spend many years working along side a holistic GP and I have experience in treating a wide range of health problems, but I have a special interest in women’s health and mental& emotional health .

I support my clients not not only as a Naturopath but also as a Holistic Mentor and Soul catalyst . Here, I draw not only on my skills as a Naturopath and Nutritionist, but also on my experience as a yoga & meditation teacher and flower essences practitioner. I also use life-coaching techniques, Human Design & Gene Keys and embodied Nature to support my clients .

I believe that the Body and the Breath are the keys to experience Health and Alignment and I’m passionate about teaching my clients to tap into the wisdom of their body and hone their embodied awareness.

In the Human Design System , I’m a 5/1 Emotional Manifestor. Using Human Design when working with my clients has been a game changer and a catalyst for true transformation. It is such a privilege for me to help other embody their Design , so they can experience completely health and alignment.

Randall Schwartz

From my own feelings I have realized, and human design has validated that my location that refreshed my spirit is natural shores. Being by water replenishes my energy and connects me with my basal oneness. Again you have written it beautifully!
